Throughout the Adirondack Park, transportation authorities utilize road salt to combat dangerous icy roads in the wintertime. But once that ice melts, salt flows off the roads and into local waterways, potentially contaminating local drinking water supplies with sodium and chloride, which when consumed over time can lead to cardiovascular problems, heart and kidney issues, and increased blood pressure.

surveying residents
WICC is collecting survey responses from people across the Park to gain a deeper understanding of how ADK residents feel about road salt contamination of local water resources. Volunteers are needed to help with the remaining surveying efforts in Warrensburg and Speculator; sign up at the link below!
