URGENT APPEAL FOR DONATIONS
WICC is urgently requesting donations to support our on-the-ground endeavors in Flint, Michigan and Adirondack Park, New York!
FLINT, MI: On September 10th, the WICC team will be flying from all over the country to the site of the Flint water crisis, where they will be partnering with the National Clean Water Collective to implement their #CheckYourTap water testing campaign. WICC team members will be surveying 22 homes and interviewing 22 families in Flint to better grasp the extent of water pollution in the community 7 years into their infamous lead water crisis.
As a youth-led nonprofit with limited resources, we need your help to get us to Flint next week. Please consider donating to our crowdfunding campaign so we can work boots-on-the-ground in Michigan with and for residents of the Flint community.
ADIRONDACK REGION, NY: This is a busy autumn for WICC; we are also implementing a surveying project in the Adirondack region of Upstate New York. As a part of the Upstate Water Contamination Project, WICC team members will be surveying households across Adirondack Park during the month of October to garner a scientifically significant understanding of residents’ knowledge of road salt contamination in their groundwater.
Road salt sprayed onto state roads in the Adirondacks runoff into private wells in rural communities, contaminating groundwater with dangerous sodium and chloride levels. WICC’s surveying efforts will be utilized by NGOs in the ADK region to better target road salt policy and research. Internally, we will use the survey to identify where we can provide sodium testing for residents at risk for water insecurity.
ANYTHING HELPS: Please donate to this crowdfunding campaign to address our urgent request for funding to get to Flint this September and support our surveying efforts this October in the Adirondacks. Thank you for supporting our completely youth-led organization and helping to secure water security for Flint residents and Upstate New Yorkers.
