Marcelo Lomelin

Weather & Climate Project Team Member

Marcelo Lomelin (he/him) was born and raised in Los Angeles County and earned his Bachelor’s degree in History from UC Santa Cruz with a particular focus on revolutionary theory. He most recently received his Master’s degree in Justice Studies from the University of Arizona in Phoenix. His education provided an interdisciplinary approach to the complex problems that face society today. While his thesis was more acutely focused on environmental and food justice, he highlighted the way that these issues are inextricably rooted in racist systems and profit oriented policies. Since Marcelo loves to eat, food has been central to his studies and activism. With a sincere belief that food is a human right he has worked with Food Not Bombs in Santa Cruz, Feed PHX in Maricopa County, produced a podcast about decolonizing local diets in the deserts of Phoenix and conducted an in depth analysis of the local food and agricultural system of Maricopa County.

Marcelo is currently based in Los Angeles where he continues to work towards a more just and sustainable future with the Weather and Climate Team at WICC. He channels his experience, education and passion into WICC and believes in the power of organizing communities to ensure all residents have access to clean air, water and food.
